FAQ
Which styles of music do you teach?
All forms of popular music. From rock and blues to swing jazz, folk and reggae. You will pick up tips and tricks to put life into the songs and tunes you are working on.
Can I bring my own choice of songs to work on?
Yes. Whether you are preparing for an open mic night, planning to perform at a celebration or simply want to play your favourites for fun.
Do you teach duos and groups?
Yes. You can book a session with up to six people and we can work on arrangements, presentation and delivery.
What if I want to play music but I’m not sure if I want to sing or play an instrument, or both?
The music room has electric bass, double bass, keyboards, drum kit, marching toms, electric and acoustic guitar, tenor and alto sax, ukulele, various percussion instruments and a small PA for practicing microphone technique. You can try these instruments before deciding which to learn.
How much will I need to practice?
Aim to play every day, even it is just for 5 or 10 minutes. If you enjoy doing something then you do it as much as you can. If you feel forced to practice, you stop enjoying it and it becomes a chore. Not everyone will be a concert pianist or a Pavarotti but everyone can learn to enjoy playing music in some way. If you enjoy it, you do it, and the more you do it, the better you get. The better you get, the more fun you have, the more you want to do it. It’s a luscious circle.
How long and how often are the sessions?
Lessons are usually one hour for one-to-one and up to two hours for duos or groups. They run on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
What are your fees?
£25 per hour
£20 for 45 minutes
